Boiler Problems

A boiler breakdown can be costly, and replacing its heating system even more, and although they can happen at anytime, it seems that a boiler only becomes a problem when needed ..during the winter months.


If your boiler breaks down, here are some of the problems you may experience:

    If you have no heating and/or hot water, check the following to make sure that they are working properly:

  • Thermostats: check the temperature settings
  • Programmers and Time Switches: check that the clock dial isn't stuck
  • Electronic Programmers: check the LCD display
  • Radiator Valve: check faulty valves and adjust settings for any change
  • Condensate Pipe: Check the pipe that runs from your boiler to your outside drain isn't frozen or blocked. Your boilers display may show a fault code or warning light as well as gurgling or bubbling sounds coming from the boiler or the condensate pipe

    Here are some Useful Tips:

    Is the heating and hot water both shut off? Check the pressure gauge on the boiler. The pressure needle should be pointing somewhere between 1 and 2.

    Is the timer properly set on the boiler? Check the timer is set to be on.

    Try One Shot drain cleaner to clear any blocked drain. It’s slightly more expensive, but works really well for stubborn drain blockages.

    If you have checked the radiators in the house, the timer and thermostat settings and the pressure on the boiler, and you have made the attempts needed to try and fix the problem, and you are still experiencing problems with heating or your boiler, report a description of the problem by filling in a maintenance form.
