Hot Water Problems

Do you have no hot water? Is your water supply cold
when it should be hot?

If your hot water supply is on the blink then there are a few simple checks
that you can do to get it working as good as new. Check the:

  • Power Supply and Fuse
  • Thermostat
  • Pilot Light
  • Running Pump
  • Gas or Oil Supply
  • You can find more information on what to do When You Have No Water:

    Is the water pressure low?

Many things can cause low water pressure, including:

  • Debris in the water
  • Mineral deposit build-up
  • Pressure regulators
  • Low pressure to the house
  • Water valves
  • Water leaks
  • These issues can sometimes be resolved fairly easily, but first you will have to get down to the bottom of them. Serious issues like water or pipe leaks and plumbing blockages that decrease water pressure will happen.

But don't automatically assume the problem is a boiler issue when simpler problems like the shut-off valve being closed or a faucet being blocked can be the cause. Use these tips to troubleshoot low water pressure issues:

More culprits in the home that can cause low water pressure are listed here:

Do you have a blockage or leak in a kitchen or bathroom? Use the Arrive Homes maintenance site to troubleshoot, resolve and/or report the problem.

If you think that the problem is the boiler, see Heating&HotWater Boiler Problems.

If the boiler or its pipes are leaking, see Heating&HotWater Leaks.

    Here are some Useful Tips:

Is the heating and hot water both shut off? Check the pressure gauge on the boiler. The pressure needle should be pointing somewhere between 1 and 2.

Is the timer properly set on the boiler? Check the timer is set to be on.

See How to Set a Digital Timer on a Thermostat:

If you want to find out How to Set an Analog Timer on a heating system, you can use this video as a guide:

Always shut off the water valve before diagnosing or fixing a hot water problem.

If you have checked the radiators in the house, the timer and thermostat settings and the pressure on the boiler, and you have made the attempts needed to try and fix the problem, and you are still experiencing problems with heating or your boiler, report a description of the problem by filling in a maintenance form.
