Locks

Safety First!

Windows are often used as an entry or exit route for burglars. Properties with windows left open or unsecured locks are desired targets for opportunists.

Whenever you leave the property unattended, you must lock ALL the doors and windows. This includes shared areas of the house. You MUST take responsibility to ensure that your bedroom window(s) are locked when you leave the house. Look out for yourself as well as for others safety and security!

Please Note: Arrive Homes are not liable for any burglary, intrusion or theft caused. You are responsible for your own contents insurance.

Window Locks: Jammed? Stuck?

There are a couple things you could check if your window/lock is stuck:

Is the window properly aligned and not sitting out of its frame? If not, try to wiggle or jimmy it back into its place.

Has the window been painted? Often, windows can become stuck together like glue if its been painted.

Is your key stuck in the lock? Is your lock stuck and wont open? Try applying WD-40 or similar products like dish soap to the lock. Make sure to use a rag to clean up any excess.

Window Locks and Keys

Window locks, such as those on sash windows, are provided with a key (if available and where possible) upon the start of a tenancy. These key(s) are expected to be returned upon leaving the property.

If a key is lost or has been misplaced, it will need to be replaced immediately. If you were individually responsible for the key, you will be required to replace it. If the key was for shared use, and you were at fault, then you are responsible for replacing the key. Where a tenant is found to be at fault, and it is difficult to determine who is at fault, the replacement cost of the key(s) will be equally apportioned among the tenants residing at the property at the time of the report.

If you have made sensible attempts to diagnose and fix the problem and your window and/or window lock is still stuck, or your key is lost, report a description of the issue by filling in a maintenance form.

Here are some Useful Tips:

Remember to close and lock all your windows, even if you are
only going out for a few minutes.

Avoid leaving valuables, house or car keys near windows.
